Standards Club

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Initiative


The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has taken the initiative of creating Standards Clubs in educational institutions comprising teachers and students as members. Through a variety of activities under these Clubs, young talents get learning opportunities in the field of quality and standardization.

Teachers play a vital role in guiding and motivating students to channelize their creativity and enhance scientific temperament. Since 2022, Government College, Ropar has collaborated with BIS to disseminate awareness about product quality and BIS specifications.

08 126 On 02 December 2022, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organized a Standards Writing Competition at Government College, Ropar. The event aimed to promote awareness about the importance of standards in daily life and encourage students to develop skills in standards writing.

This event included:
  • Lecture on importance of BIS standards
  • Identification of ISI marks and hallmarking
  • Written test on standards
  • Prize distribution
Students participated enthusiastically and winners were awarded cash prizes.

03 30 On 9 December 2022, students visited the BIS Laboratory at Phase VII, Mohali. The visit provided exposure to mechanical, electrical and chemical testing laboratories. Students interacted with BIS experts and gained insight into certification and quality assurance processes.

03 30 Students observed cement manufacturing processes, quality control, BIS compliance, testing labs and control rooms. The visit highlighted the role of standards in industrial safety and product reliability.

Standards Club 10 42 The Quality Connect Program sensitized students about quality standards, BIS certification schemes and digital tools. Demonstrations and interactive sessions helped participants understand the importance of quality in academic and professional life.
